Hello I'm looking for reassurance here rather than help. I'm certainly no expert but since buying my first Roman in 1989, a Carausius Pax ant' I've developed a good eye for identifying them. I saw this on the famous online auction site, unidentified, for £4.00, I thought Claudius Gothicus, but then thought no, it's his brother Quintillus. It's arrived today and now I'm hoping it isn't Claudius II. Opinions please, 21mm. RIC 22, XII in ex Quintillus AE Antoninianus. 270 AD. Rome mint. LAETITIA AVG, Laetitia standing left, holding wreath and anchor on globe, XII in exergue. Sear 11444.
I just got one in the mail! For an obscure emperor who ruled within practically the blink of an eye between Claudius II and Aurelian his coins are surprisingly affordable (which is good since I want to save my money on high quality pieces of more famous emperors or for the artistry of Classical Greek coins). The portrait is pretty impressive for coins of the era and I'm happy with having this one fill a slot in my collection of as many emperors as I can reasonably hope to get.
