I found the Christ/Virgin Mary token /medal about 9 months ago while metal detecting. I would like to try and find out more about its age, what it's made of and where it might have come from. It is 35mm in diameter and was found in Somerset, England. Any feedback gratefully received. DSC02069 (600 x 450).jpg DSC02070 (600 x 450).jpg

That’s a nice looking piece. Congrats on your find and welcome to CT. Sorry but I can’t help with it’s identification.

Google Salvator Mundi medal and see what you come up with.

Good call Randy. Lots of similar items apart from the lack of Salvator Mundi on my example. Looking at the Salvator Mundi medals, I'm now pretty sure that my example is made of bronze. Still no real indication of age though. Thanks for your help.

I also did an intense Google image search, used key words.
But I couldn't identify the unique item.

Communion Token, huh? I hope the recipient of it got to make their "Confirmation" duties. I did both. Oh, I regretted going to classes, especially night. I guessing more English. Maybe a Catholic item perhaps??
It's very interesting to say the least. I would contact a historical society perhaps. Someone from the area also.

I don't exactly have fond memories of my Confirmation. All I got was a tap on the chin from some fat NYC Bishop and a dirty look from one of my grandmothers, neither one of which I could stand to look at for more than 2 seconds. The only other person that was there was my mother.

Whatever that is, it's looks pretty well struck up for having such large designs on both sides.

Oh boy! It was a hit in my house. I got lots of money from my rich Uncles and LOT and LOTS of Italian food with Italian pastries from the Italian bakery. :hungry:;)
Sorry poster. Sorry to get off topic a little. I got so excited about the food thing. :jawdrop:

I did an image search and also tried the Coinoscope app on it, got nothing useful. Took me a while to find a Latin-English translator (curiously, the main ones don't do Latin. Guess dead languages don't count). Obverse predictably says "I am the way truth and life", reverse says something about "finds life" (can't figure out the first word - QVIMP?). That's no help either. Seems like there's probably a bazillion different kinds of these things.

Overwhelmed by your efforts and input. Far greater a response than I ever expected. Thanks to you all. With regard to the legends, I think they read
"EGO SUM VIA VERITAS ET VITA" and "QUI ME INVENIT INVENIET VITAM". Translations read as "I am the way, and the truth, and the life" from the Bible, book of John 14:6 and "Who finds me will find life."

So true my friend. Maybe that's why I haven't found my way yet. I'm still going to try though. ;)
I'll never forget those days spent with family on Sundays. Nice and boring. No chaos like today with the internet an all....
