Really? Lets see here... banknotes, comics, sports cards, vinyl toys, music (CDs and records), sneakers, lifting weights, and gaming. I'm slowly running out of room for all my stuff. Yeah, I really don't care about downloading stuff too much. I still find having a physical copy to be so much better. You can't match the sound quality of a CD or record blasting out from a pair of tower speakers to a download running through anything. I would rather be playing my Led Zep or Pink Floyd records than playing them on my tablet.
I also collect U.S. military trade tokens, military payment certificates, and other forms of compensation or credit that was extended to service members. I also collect medals otherwise known as challenge coins that are relevant to my career and ones that are historically significant to the development of challenge coins. I consider this all part of my coin collection.
Aethelred, Great idea for a post! My other major interest is collecting antique woodworking planes and using them to make furniture. Over the years I've accumulated about 25 planes spanning an era from the 1880's to the 1930's. After a rough day at the office, spending an hour or two flattening a maple plank or making a table top works all the mental and physical stresses out of my system and clears my mind up. This picture below is of an old Victorian sideboard that now houses the most commonly used tools including chisels, braces and draw knifes. My upcoming summer of 2017 project will be to make the type of solid heavy workbench that would have been common about hundred years ago, without power tools.
Other hobbies...... Hiking, gardening, target shooting, reading, & my husband and have been ballroom dancing over 20 years. Di
GREAT hobby. I love to read about, fascinated with it as a kid, keep up on the news, and even took a course during University (YEARS ago)... Just not a hobbiest.
Music and collecting musical instruments: Fossils: Legos: Old periodicals and books: Doodling: And rocks/minerals.
My Hobbies: - Fishing - Ancient History - International Travel - Fixing train-wreck businesses (yeah, it is stressful, but fun to me) - Target shooting / building firearms - Grandkids
Speaking of quadcopters, I just sat down and built another one today. Thought I'd share since so many liked the original post. This one is tiny and indoor only, but should be a ton of fun when there's too much snow to fly the big guy.
Competetive recreational running. I ran track in high-school and love distance running. I race every 2-4 weeks and I train by running, cycling, and swimming in between. I am well into my 50s now, though, and I haven't done a full marathon in two years. But I run everything up to the half-marathon distance and it's a thrill to outrun most men in their 20s.
I used to collect antique photographs but stopped buying them to concentrate on coins and photography. From the 1850's: Gone but not forgotten Dad will beat me if I move and ruin this photo. I am a boy! 1860's - Why is there a stack of banknotes just left of the dog? Harrison Linn was blind in one eye and deaf as a doornail. At age 64, in 1877, the railroad built tracks across his farm. He died standing on the tracks. He was my great-grandfather. Finally, to make this a coin connected thread: I claim this is the oldest photograph of ancient coins. It is a French still life from the late 1850's. At the lower left is a bracelet made of antoniniani (Postumus?). Show me an older one. I still have a lot of old stereo views but this is the only one with coins.
Been metal detecting since 1974 and still love it, although most of the older buildings in Central Florida are pretty much gone by now and new structures stand in their place. Anyone else ever try this?
I wasn't sure if this was politically correct to post this here but this is my other expensive hobby. I collect Smith & Wesson revolvers and Colt 1911's. I also like target shooting with my Black Powder Cartridge Rifles. My favorite is the model 1873 Shilo Sharps in 45-70.
I Used to have a lot of revolvers but a messy divorce forced me to sell most of them. I Still have my two favorites though, A S & W 625-2 Model of 1989 and a Ruger Blackhawk in .30 carbine.
