I know not the best pictures. Think my grandfather paid around $30 for it. It has natural lustre, and I would like to know everyone's opinion on having it "conserved" as it may come back PL after removing the tarnish. I personally disagree with the whole "conservation" thing, because we aren't allowed to clean coins, but a certain company can? But if it was conserved, and came back PL, I've never heard of one in PL cond. which would up the value considerably. After reviewing the pics I realize you can't see that there is no wear on the cheek, or the eagle's wings. Also the reeded edge is immaculate sparkly and has that fresh from the mint smell. This coin was being stored in a cardboard with plastic style flip marked XF $29 until I rescued it It's the itty bitty o variety as the title suggests.
More like an AU-55 and possibly lightly cleaned. It's kind of hard to tell when I have to lay on my side. Welcome to CT.
From my understanding the conservation is basically an expensive acetone bath thus really only worth the expense if you have a very expensive coin you would like someone held accountable for during that process.
The before and after pics of coins that have been "conserved" look dramatic, do typical results vary? I was thinking if the natural tarnish was removed from this one, it would possibly get a PL grade. Some spots show no tarnish and are VERY reflective. I will get better pictures up soon as I can. I thought coin collectors were all bed ridden from ebay 22 hrs a day already laying on their side to avoid bed sores, next pics will be right side up and in focus lol.
I think conservation & grading of this coin would barely be worth increased value. Mintage 12,290,000
The coin plainly shows the striations of a wipe or something, and I don't see toning of that color as "original" but more likely what happened after a severe cleaning. Even right-side up in my graphics software I can't decide if it's really worn or just a very flat strike; better images are imperative for any informed opinion. I_will say that I think the date is too far left for any of the known Micro O varieties.
I'm sorry. I should have waited to post. It's absolutely a micro o. Circular middle and cocked clockwise. New pictures with daylight tomorrow, the camera is 13MP so I should be able to get some good pics, this was my first attempt and I posted before zooming in. Personally I think it's an incredibly weak strike. Anyone have link or pic of the most weakly struck graded MS morgan they have ever seen? In person the coin shows reflectivity on the leaves and the poppies I believe. The base of the poppies, not the fluffy top part. Should I remove the pictures now? Probably less embarrassing to have no pic than those pics.
That NGC census makes me want a membership. Can you submit coins to them in a generic slab? The directions for shipping say coin flips. I won't put expensive coins in a flip for ANY reason save I just found it and don't have a slab.
Don't believe me. Go look at the relevant listings on VAMworld; the only Near Date Micro O is VAM-6. Here's the VAMworld date location image for VAM-6: Here's yours: Note your "1" clearly overlaps the second denticle, whereas VAM-6 does not. That's not where you want to see "reflectivity" on a coin....
I looked closely and indeed the date overlaps the denticle. Not all varieties are VAM ed so I guess I have one they deem insignificant lol. That's why they created VAM in the first place or you'd have people spam VAMMING! Now I guess I can say I have a one of a kind coin, thank you for your input. I wasn't trying to argue, just that the o is tiny and almost perfectly round. I always appreciate all input as I love to learn. I checked the VAMs earlier and thought it lined up but you are totally right it's just left of ligning up, as is the bust point.
My fuzzy pic is causing all kinds of trouble. the 1 in my pic looks almost like it ligns up with the center of a denticle, in reality it's prob 25% left of that right edge. Tomorrow for sure I will get the new pics up. I'm elated at all the support, you all are awesome!
It has the VAM 6 diagonal line near eagles neck. IDK. It took the jewelers loupe and a lot of squinting.
I have had the NGC $39 per year membership since 2011. I submit in the 2.5 x 2.5 flips with NO problems. But, modern mint issues in the OGP plastic capsules are acceptable. 1909-S VDB, 1914-D Lincolns, 16 - 1932 Capped Bust Halfs, Morgans, etc. Just be sure the shipping box is well padded & secure.
