I wouldn't know, never heard of the guy, and haven't seen any of his other work so I'm not aware of this "limited time production." But if it were me, and I had the die or whatever they are called, at $175 bucks a pop I wouldn't ever stop making them lol
He knows how markets work and also gets bored. He keeps mintages low on most issues so he can move on to the next after costs are recouped and a nice little profit is made. Afterward he defaced and scraps his dies so none can ever be made again. He has a rabid following and his items almost never sell below issue price once they are sold out. You can rest assured they will go up in value from modestly to the insane. I highly suggest picking up a 1917 broken sword peace dollar overstrike, or two, if you have the means. Without getting into it, this is an epic offering that will go down in Moonlight Mint history. And I predict very nice and steady price increases on them once they are sold out.
Unfortunately, that would most likely be a recipe for their price/demand dropping. The limited nature of the releases is part of what makes them attractive.
Yeah I'm really considering, not because he made it, but because I really love the Peace dollars, and its pretty much the nicest example you will ever see. I heard something about a second mintage though, possibly waiting? What's your thoughts.
My thoughts are.... Go for it. Not sure what the final mintage will be with these but the reverse is made from a direct scan of the long lost original 7.5" bronze cast of the broken sword peace dollar reverse created by Anthony De Francisci and James Fraser that Dan and the Moonlight Mint acquired. This is an epic offering to say the least. He has indicated that he will also do something with the broken sword reverse in a few years in 2021 for the 100th anniversary of the Peace Dollar. Maybe that's the "second mintage" you are thinking about.
Yeah I couldn't resist, went ahead and got me one, they are too gorgeous to pass up. Now I just have to figure out how to get it graded. I read in this thread somewhere somebody mentioned him doing a second batch or something.
People stop buying these right now - they are awful, you don't want them!!! STOP!!! The detail and depth in the reverse of the Peace makes it look like the Eagle is going to jump off the surface of the coin. It is quite beautiful and I hope the mintage stays low. Surprised Dan hasn't updated numbers. Seems like Coin Talk members alone have bought up the figures he has posted.
I think you are referring to my earlier post to someone who had not yet received their 1917 Peace overstrike. If you check the production numbers from his site, he made 51 of them (so far) to start and some here got one or more of the first 51 made. He will make more and updates his production numbers regularly until stating (sold out or final mintage).
Anacs slabs them with custom labels that Dan created and his hand-signed personal signature on the back. You need a minimum of 5 items I think to submit so you might want to pick up another overstrike and one each of the other broken sword offerings and a clashed Morgan
If you miss out on this Peace dollar and see one in hand later, you will kick yourself. I am sitting here holding mine up next to a nice 1925 MS coin and the difference justifies every cent I spent to get it. Wish I could afford a couple more!
I wish I had the money to afford that lol. Would local shops or anyone else do it for a fee? Do these come with a mintage number? For something this unique I think it would be cool if he did that. Since we know 51 have already been sold, I want 99, or 100
I'm sure you can piggyback on someone's order here when one comes up. I'd let you if I was planning on one soon. I suggest just keeping it raw in the flip until you can piggyback on an anacs order or have enough coins to submit. They don't all need to be Carr so if you have a few other coins you want to submit...
Last question and I'll stop being a noob, besides this thread is to enjoy the beauty of these coins! What's the price to submit 5 coins?
I think the 5 coin limit is only for the economy. Doesn't seem to be a limit on the 5 day turnaround for $19
