Hello all! It's going to be a scorcher this week in New England. It's even too hot to eat my favorite, clam "chowda". Anyways, I came up with this idea for a post just now. I'm calling it "Majestic Monday".... Majestic: Impressive or beautiful in a dignified or inspiring way. That's just one textbook definition. It can be and I don't want to leave anyone out. Coins, Currency or tokens as well. I'll go first with a special Silver piece in my collection for its beauty.
Anyone have something with an Elk on it? As a side note on majestic, the male Elk in Norse mythology, was considered their most sacred animal, nick named Lord of the Forrest. The Elk's antlers were believed to form a connection from Earth (Midgard) to Heaven (Asgard). For that reason, the rune Elhaz, ^ which means Elk, was considered the strongest rune of protection. You'll even see it sometimes on shields in Viking movies or re-enactments.
@alurid Nice, but I need to ask is that blob looking feature in the middle of the H in Half a reflection or a die chip? Similar features in some of the other letters. Dave
The Banff Springs golf course in Alberta has a ground rule that if you hit an Elk you get a free drop. I hit an Elk up there one time and understand why you just take a drop and don't try to get your ball.
The word majestic is open to interpretation but in my collection 1 coin fits the bill. My 1846-O Seated Dollar. These things are so large it is hard to imagine them being used in day to day commerce. Mine is from the first year a silver dollar was ever struck in America outside of Philly. it is also 1 of only 3 survivors of my once 36 piece dollar type set. James
It is just reflection due to amateur lighting. Note that the bottom half of the coin is black due to the reflction of phone camara.
At one time they said the very same thing about coffee, that it was too hot to drink on a hot day. So they came up with ice coffee. Iced Chowda? Someone should be the pioneer on that movement.
That's a caribou, not an elk. Still a majestic animal. Estes Park CO golf course has the same "problem", and yes, you don't want to get anywhere near an angry elk. Trying to think of something majestic... how about this American Legion school award medal. It's 2.5" in diameter.
America's most beautiful coin. The heaviest coins, aside from the modern quarter drinking glass "coarsters."
Nice. Our American Legion Post just had a dinner in honor of the local High School students that we sent to Summer at the State Capital. We send as many as 5 boys and 5 girls each Summer. They learn about the political processes, voting, and other civic duties.
I think this is majestic. Once a very rare coin until they found thousands of them on a Shipwreck. Netherlands Ducat from the province of Holland.
