Where's the rest of the eagle...on another soon-to-be-released medal/coin? Is it really an eagle, or just a crow wearing an eagle's pantaloons and pointy clown feet?
Seems like an oddly familiar idea... I have the set from 2016 and I'm a fan of these. Unfortunately they're doing FIVE "best ofs" next year. Going to be hard to try to collect them all. The new golds will have 250 privy marks and original dates I hear. I think i'm more excited about the companion medal than the SLQ in gold again. It looks like a cool modern design. Issue prices will be scary.
I realize no one here designed this coin but i am trying to understand it's symbolism. When I look at the bottom left corner of the reverse I see what (to me) appears to be a small child? cherub? acme face? peering out from what might be rocks? Clouds, An Eagle nest? Anyone know more please feel free to educate me. James
I think it’s just clouds since it is depicted flying in the sky. The clouds are on the obverse and show up the same on reverse. I don’t know that there’s supposed to be any hidden meaning to that portion.
@Vess1. I see the continuation of clouds from obverse to reverse. My interpretation is that we are seeing a windblown Nordic type Liberty calling to the Eagle and the Reverse is to show the flow/movement of time as the Eagle has flown past her. On the other hand my oldest daughter says they should have run this past a room full of 12 year old boys. "LOOK, Eagle butt!!" James
@rte. Saying the symbolism of a coin might be political is like saying "that blanket looks like it was made for warmth." James
I don't like the medal. Liberty's head looks like Medusa's from Jason and The Argonauts. The Eagle on the obverse looks like a robo duck.
Nice movie reference. I feel like that is a movie that not many people under the age of 50 have seen. I used to watch it as a kid.
About the best I've ever heard (and remember this is 1916, during the War to End all Wars): Is America proudly strutting to take her place on the world stage.
