rats .. more money stolen away by the US Mint for one of my favorites ...

 

I saw that email and am a bit confused..... I assume the gold will be a reissue of the 2016 quarter ounce..... I cannot figure out what they are saying about the silver though. Is it the stylized one ounce creation shown in the photo with the gold reissue?

 

From the picture I assume they are going to reissue the 2016 and release a 1oz Silver medal with that different design. I wish it was the same design but I'll probably get both.

Hopefully the medal will be less than an ASE price.
A current 1oz silver medal I was thinking of getting is $97 .... I've held off on clicking the Checkout button from the price .... been sitting my "Bag" and I've rebagged it a couple times ... just can't get over the price yet ... as on the bay ... the price for a proof one is less than the $97 from the Mint.

 

Check eBay and other auctions for that 2023 medal. Currently someone has it on eBay for about $75 total. I don’t know the seller but they do have 100% feedback. Auctions and sold BINs have gone for $60-$70. Usually items like this from the mint can be found for less after release.

Personally, I think the artistry work in that medal is amazing. I don't have any medals in my collection, but this one might have to make its way into my hoard.

Now that you mention it ….

 

Although the gold standing liberty is a beautiful coin, that medal doesn't hold a candle to it, not interested! I like the reverse tho'!

 

I think what confounded me was the photo of the Type 1 they had in the body of the email.... I guess that was just there to remind us what an original Type 1 looked like?

 

I just so, so, so wish that they'd make the gold reissues the same size as the original coins - they way they did for the 2014 gold Kennedy. 3/4oz for the half, 3/8oz for the quarter, and 3/20oz for the dime, and they'd be perfect. I'd grit my teeth and pay the Mint's premium for that set.

 

The Standing Liberty design is my favorite after the Draped Bust, but no way I'm paying the mint premium on a gold piece. The more I look at the medal the more it grows on me, but it looks like Lady Liberty is on too strict of a diet.

 

They can't.

They have statutory authority to issue gold coins in the 1/10, 1/4, 1/2, and 1-ounce sizes with designs that meet the minimum requirements (which, as a previous coin design, the SLQ does).

They have statutory authority to make medals.

Anything else would take a new law.

 

Nobody said I couldn't wish for a new law. (I presume one was passed for the Kennedy commem; why not these?)

 

I don’t understand the “story” being displayed on it. The eagle swoops in and steals the olive branch from Liberty? What’s that supposed to mean?

 

"Carry peace to the rest of the world", I suppose.

I'll be trying very hard not to read it as "I'm outta here".
