What causes the perfect doubling indented into the coin?

    Hi Nikki,
A bit hard to tell from your photos as they are blurry. If the metal is raised around the edges of what you see, then most likely is PMD or Post Mint Damage, after the coin was made. If the metal is flush with the surface with no sharp edges then it could have been struck through foreign matter, which makes it made at the Mint that way.

Hi, Nikki! If you're suggesting that the mark is identical to the outline of the back of Lincoln's head, it isn't. I agree with Tommy, but I would like to see a better close-up.

Yeah it's like it is engraved into the metal but it is a perfect match to Lincolns head. I'll try to take better pictures.

I disagree! It is similar, but it is not identical.
