1976 penny error

    Can someone please tell me what kind of error this is and if there’s any value to this penny. I believe it was meant to be a 1976 penny, but was struck to read 19V6.

    Sorry but that’s not an error of any type. The date is 1976. Copper is soft and it was struck by something harder than copper. Part of the 7 was moved giving it the V appearance.

    Welcome to Coin Talk! Yes, this is a 1976 cent and, lacking a mint mark, means it was struck in Philadelphia. It has been well circulated with additional damage to the numeral “7”. It is not an error. It has no value beyond face value.

    Just because a coin looks different, strange or weird doesn't automatically make it a mint error. There are numerous ways coins become damaged during circulation.

    The 7 in 1976 took a hit.

    Your Cent is not a mint error of any kind unfortunately.
