I was going to post my AE Vespasian along side Ro1974's spectacular Vespasian Dupodius in another thread. I had purchased it about a year ago, took pics that I hadn't edited, got busy, and filed the coin away without attributing it because the person I purchased it from had already attributed it. So...tonight I am looking closer at it and I realize it that ain't no Vespasian!!! There is "T" between IMP & CAES. Plain as day. It's a TITUS!! Feel free to post your Titus coins, but I would rather see and hear about any coins that you had a major mis-attribution incident with Or am I the only one??? Titus, 79-81. As, Rome, 80. O: IMP T CAES VESP AVG P M TR P COS VIII Laureate head of Titus to right. Rx: AEQVITAS AVGVST / S-C Aequitas standing left, holding scales in her right hand and long scepter with her left. BMC 203. BN 206. Cohen 4. RIC 121a.
Great coin! My only Titus: RI Titus 79-81 CE AR Denarius Ceres seated corn ear poppy torch PIG!!! Sooowee PIG!!! RI Titus 79-81 CE AR Denarius Sow piglets
Cool Bronze!!!! Like many of us, I've had a few minor attribution issues, mostly typo or careless RIC listings but nothing too serious as far as I know. I seem to have quite a few examples of Dad and younger brother but I keep missing out on TITUS, although I have this provincial----a budget version of the 'Judea Capa' type....
I have a Sestertius of Titus as Augustus: IMP T CAES VESP AVG P M TR P PP COS VIII / ANNONA AVG Sestertius, Rome 80 33 mm / 18,91 gr RIC 86, C 16
So no Titus...but here's one that I bought as a Phillip but turned out to be Lysimachus Lysimachus, Kingdom of Thrace, BC 323-305 AE, 5g, 17mm; 5h; BC 317-305 Obv.: laureate head of Apollo right Rev.: ΦΙΛΙ[ΠΠΟΥ]; horseman riding right; ΛΥ beneath horse left, lion forepart right (protome of lion)
kool coin! i have several denari and a couple of as's that are in question too on Titus or Vespasian. i'll take and post a pic of'em on here today and see what you think
I put this one away as low grade Tiberius As for Drusus. Only realized much later it ain't. It is in fact a restitution issue struck under Titus. I don't know how I neglected to examine the reverse and see the words RES(T). oh well..... Drusus. Died AD 23. As. Restitution issue. Rome. Struck under Titus, AD 80-81. Obv: DRVSVS CAESAR TI AVG F DIVI AVG N, bare head left Rev: IMP T • CAES • DIVI • VESP • F • AVG • REST • around large S • C. RIC II 437 (Titus)
Besides the above, I have a few other issues for Titus in my collection: Titus As - Spes. Titus As - Victoria Navalis Titus As - Judaea Capta
This Otho Alexandrian TET was sold to me as a Galba, not much readable legend on obverse but the T behind Otho's neck gives it away, as there isn't one on Galba's obverse legend. Roman Egypt, Otho, Emmett 184, 12.60gm.
you know, now that you mentioned it, there does seem to be a T there. it was supposed to be minted in 73-74 and now i again believe it was.
