Hello all - checking to see if this is a die clash in the upper right quadrant behind E Pluribus Unum or I am seeing things. Thank you. 1921 Buffalo Nickel AU E263 KQMR | eBay
Clash from what though? There are no vertical straight lines on the obverse. I guess it could be the braid but that has a significant curve to it. See https://www.maddieclashes.com/five-cent-overlays/
I thought perhaps it was the neck but as KBBPLL says there are no straight lines - probably just took a hit at some point. Thanks for all of the feedback!
I believe now this is a die clash. Another 21 that I was looking at (from the same seller by the way) has an even stronger clash on the reverse but with a slightly different rotation, as well as on the obverse below the chin. I bought this one, a little high for the grade but I like the errors. Easy to see the V of the neck and chin as well as the lower lip. The rotation though doesn't work with the motto showing below the chin on the obverse so I'm thinking maybe there was a clash, then the obverse was repaired or replaced and set at a different rotation, then another clash; these are known for heavy die rotations. There are a couple of other artifacts (circled in blue) but they don't line up well once the motto is in place, probably PMD. I will know better once I have it in hand and can see if they are raised or incused. So - did I get it right this time?
