Has Anyone Gone To Past Quarter Launch and Exhanges?

I'm wondering if anyone has attended one of these. Do the rolls for the exchange have any markings designating them as from the event? Does the mint select better coins for this or are they just run of the mill, from the nearest bank's vault? Thankyou

I have been to them and no, the rolls offered generally have no special markings.

One enterprising person at the 2010 Lincoln Cent launch took rolls to the post office to have them postmarked verifying the date and location for the rolls.

I don't know about the quarters, but the rolls for the release ceremonies of the Westward Journey Nickels were wrapped by private firms like Security Armored Express and N. F. String. They were not pre-printed with the date/mm or the event.

I can understand why the Mint might not want to use the same wrappers that are used for regular orders because they charge a premium for them, and there is no premium for the rolls from the release ceremonies.

Not just one, Mike, not just one. I saw at least 10 guys doing it in DC. Also the fourth 2009 reverse.

I disagree, Kurt. I pulled my children out of school for the statehood quarter launch in 2003 and it was very educational.

I agree, but I meant the quarters themselves are nothing special - same as bank rolls.

I see. I misunderstood your comment.

The only thing special about the coins at these launches are the fact that they are available.

Besides Mike, in PA if you take your kids out of school for nearly ANYTHING, you get a tersely worded letter from the attendance administrator warning you of legal consequences. They have been known to literally prosecute if you don't properly beg for forgiveness. "Thank you sir, may I have another?"

Better to lie and say they were sick.

Does anyone have a list of upcoming events? I searched all over the US Mints website and can only find information on the upcoming event February 6 and 7th

Unless I'm on the road elsewhere, my plans are to make the one in D.C. (Frederick Douglass) and Ellis Island. And IF I drive to Denver for the ANA rather than fly there (depends on snagging a good airfare, actually two), I'm now curious enough to visit Effigy Mounds this summer long after the quarter release. I'll be 62 by then, and I need to stop doing "meh, I'll catch that some other time".
