Dealer stock, or did you spot some hidden rarities in there? (Or maybe both.)

    Victor,

The Constantinople mint follis, first follis pic, bottom row, 3rd coin, if that's something other than a camp gate or Dafne (in other words an issue of 327/8) I'd be interested. Metal and strike look pretty nice.

Good for you! I haven’t bought a large lot in a while and actually still have some to process from the last one I bought!

I bought a large lot in Leu for one coin and overpaid because I secured a better example as a single lot. After my Forrest Gump moment I considered that I need to dispose of the balance and not let them languish. Stupid is as stupid does..............

I hope you picked up a rarity Victor. There are five coins here that I would not want to darken my trays with. I'll give the Edward the VIII to our local dog rescue because it may feed a dog for a morning. I enjoyed his history and learning what a low life he was.

Thanks Barry, but this one is the latest addition to my Constantinople collection.

I have the earlier issue of this coin with laurels that I like better; mainly because it is ex Peter Weiß.

for those not familiar check out his Festschrift (it has a list of his publications)

Monumentum et Instrumentum Inscriptum: Beschriftete Objekte aus Kaiserzeit und Spatantike als historische Zeugnisse. Festschrift fuer Peter Weiß zum 65. Geburtstag

my favorite article of his is-

"The Vision of Constantine." Journal of Roman Archeology 16, 2003, pp. 237-259.

this is a must read for people interested in the topic; which Weiß convincingly argues that the vision was a "sundog"

and to stray further from the original topic...have a page from an incunable, which is a book printed before 1501; which illustrates a sun dog or solar halo
