I searched thru several forums and my coin references and could not anything on this potential error, can someone with some expertise say whether or not this is an error? Error Location: Reverse, Left Balcony of Monticello The detail image is the base reference, included are the obverse date, the right balcony and left balcony of the coin in question. It appears the left balcony shwos a line where a box should be (see reference drawing). Thanks.
Almost certainly. That's where you'll find some of the strongest clashing on a Jeff reverse - from the chin - when it happens.
I dunno for sure, it looks clean, not from a hit or other abrasion and appears to be a missed detail for 1976-D. The area on the right I identified by arrow may be die trails? I compared it to many nickels and I have only noticed this balcony issue on the 1976-D so I was hoping there was a Jefferson Nickel expert trolling the board who could answer definitely. I saw another 1976-D on another forum that had the same error as mine but the owner was concerned about another area.
