I've posted about these before but they were all so messed up from circulation I wasn't really concerned what the responses on here would be, just curiosity and desire to learn mostly. But this one is in pretty good condition and I would love for this to be a plating issue and not PMD. My cheap phone doesn't take very good pictures, but in hand the zinc is more prominent. Plus I know 1999 produced more than its fair share of errors, so I'm hoping. Thanks.
Your coin looks like it has thin plating in it's center. Some folks do not consider this a "mint" error due to the plating being done by a outside /3rd party vendor. It is an abnomality that comes with the process of plating zinc planchets. There are folks that would like to have this type of coin.
Looks like the plating was on the thin side in the center of your coin. The zinc core is starting to show through. Nice find but you won’t get rich on this minor error. And some don’t consider it an error.
I like them. I consider them errors, but I do understand the reasoning behind the "not an error" crowd. Here's one that I got from Great Collections a few years ago. One of my favorite cent errors.
How about those snake fireworks on a penny? As kids, we'd put the snake pellet on a coin and light it. The sights, the sounds......the smell. Those things had a unmistaken smell all of their own.
