1967 Quarter Die Chip, Doubling or PMD?

Discussion in 'Error Coins' started by Brandon Purdum, Jul 25, 2025 at 3:21 PM.

  1. Hello, I have a 1967 Washington quarter with possible die chip or doubling errors on the obverse, specifically below the 'E' and 'R' in 'LIBERTY'. The E chip/damage is visible without magnification. Are these actual die chips, or just damage? Found in pocket change. Machine doubling, die erosion, damage.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

It does not appear to be die erosion or damage.

I would say with high confidence that is machine doubling.

Strike, machine, mechanical. All the same thing, worthless doubling. ;)

That coin is so beat up that I suspect it isn't anything except random damage.

    No, not at all.

Also, a true doubled die falls under the variety category, not the errors category.
Remember that for your future posts.

Yes…even without full images of both sides you can see the extent of circulation wear/damage. I would not have spent more than 20 seconds on this coin. I see no redeeming qualities whatsoever…Spark

…and the only reason I would have spent more than 5 seconds on it would be to see both sides and wonder about all the moments in its’ life that damage was inflicted!

You asked a simple question and got a lot of sarcasm. I appreciate your question as I have had coins with the same type of thing. We're both just doing our best to educate ourselves. This forum disappoints me. Feel free to kick me off. Members and moderators should have more patience and tolerance.

We do take a little getting used to. Some people don’t listen to what others are saying. We all learn differently. Please stick around.
