Received two 2007 Proof Sets and have to send both back. In one the nickel and dime are not fully in the cutout and the nickel has a hazy blemish on it. In the same set the Adams Dollar is loaded with what looks like grit on the mirrored surface on the obverse. In the other set the Lincoln penny has been scratched on the obverse. A lot of the coins appear as though it was some sort of a horse race to get the coins forced into the cardboad cut-outs. Not very pleased. I get the feeling that the extra help the mint put on to handle the overloaded schedule is not paying attention to detail.
That is sad to hear. Someone probably knocked over the coin table while encapsulating the coins and their lunch got mixed up in with them on an unswept floor, then they got run over by a forklift. The mint has too many pokers in the fire and can't keep up. They are turning into a Canadian mint. Not to dis Canadians but they produce far too many types of coins and in my opinion this only reduces their collecting value.
I received two 07 proof sets yesterday, both are exceptional, so sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
This is the reason I went to my local coin shop to buy the '07 Proof Set. I've been hearing a lot of horror stories about these, so I wanted to look them over before I bought a set. My coin dealer told me that a LOT of the sets are bad (and he showed me several to prove it). I selected a nice set from his offerings and am happy I did so. If you order these directly from the Mint, it's strictly pot-luck!
bad prez's, rest beautiful Just got my 2 subscription sets delivered yesterday. In both sets, the presidential dollars are bad. knicks, scratches, discolorations. All of the other coins make for the best overall clad proof sets I've ever received from the mint. Made me think something specifically with the presidentials. Too new, too inexperienced (and too rushed, as suggested)? Anyway, I think I'm keeping them because of the quality of the regular portion of the sets.
my sub hasn't come in yet.... i did get the notification that i should be getting it shortly though. i guess all we can do is hope for the best.
I have to agree on that one. I generally buy mine from the local dealer. He gets a ton and might charge me a buck over mint cost. I'll pay that buck to see them first.
I didnt get mine either. I hope I dont have to return mine though, that could become a huge hassle and end up cancelling my subscription and just buying them from the local dealer also. We'll see.
I received my 07 Proof sets yesterday. They are in excellent condition. I believe the mint has learned to make them very appealing. In my opinion, all proofs should grade PR 69 or 70. If you receive them in any other condition than outstanding, return them for replacement or order again.
