And that last one makes me think of these two Tasmanian 1 penny tokens I have. I don't set out to collect tokens like this but I guess I like a lot of them. Do you think that emu and kangaroo are about to fight or what?
There were two issues of trade tokens for Annand Smith & Co. The first was manufactured by the Soho Mint, Birmingham in 1849. This was SOHO's last product produced as the mint's machinery was being broken down for sale. Heaton & Sons purchased much of the equipment at the sale of the Soho mint and their first issue was of trade tokens for Annand Smith & Co. in 1851 (with H & S added).
The emu (or cassowary?) and kangaroo theme is also on the Australian 50c piece. I wouldn't want to tangle with either one.
Here's some fun from Africa. Interestingly enough, I didn't realize I had the Mombasa rupee and I've been looking for one at coin shops and shows. I wonder when I got it?
J. Pinches designed a medal for the 1854 Crystal Palace Sydenham exhibition (BHM 2549) that continued to be used as a prize medal for later exhibitions throughout the 19th century. This is an example in silver (63mm) awarded in 1893.
A scarcer German issuer. Marsberg, 1608, 1/24 thaler, KM#5 A lovely coin in hand with nice luster and a faint iridescence. Nice strike apart from one small area of weakness.
