Hi all. I am a new member. I have been asked to help to identify these coins. They are saying that they are real. To me they look fake. Your opinions please? Thank you
Probably because all (except the Byzantine) do not even look close to the style or fabric of the genuine pieces. That' my guess.
I would not condemn these coins without careful consideration. I would recommend looking-up the gold coins of Turkey, Tunisia or Iran and consider weighing the coins. I see a date of 1327 (1909) & a star at the top of the wreath so check Turkey for that one. Perhaps there is a Toughra on the other side of that coin? They all look suspect to me (in fact they look like brass in the photo & the leaf details in the wreath & overall quality appearance is weak) but they should be further inspected!
I really don't know anything about this series of coins or what country they came from but I agree with @Collect89. Although many of the coins should be gold and look different from the genuine pieces you should be very careful before considering that they may be replicas!
If they're fakes, they'd have to be fakes of something. I'd say, from the looks of them, that's the geographic region, your advice is sound advice. These should be scrutinized against the coins from that region. Here's a free website with pictures that may help in that effort: http://worldcoingallery.com.
They're all Turkish, or simulating same, how do you like that? We're proud of you, @Insider, good eye on those!
Sooner or later, even a blind paraplegic can get a ball into a pool table pocket - especially with help from @Collect89!
Not really, those designs would have been on gold coins. The cup coins here, like the others, appear to be brass.
