I'm not a big user/participant but was hoping someone could identify type of doubling. I've looked at different threads/links but still have a problem identifying. tks
As stated above it's machine doubling. This is commonly seen on the lettering near the rim on National Park Quarters because it's incuse, or recessed.
https://www.error-ref.com/incused-machine-doubling/ In 1999 all mints began exclusively using single press hubbing. Whatever you find on coins dated after that is very likely not a doubled die. Anything after 1999 I don't consider to be true hub doubling anyway, even when it's on the die from the hub chattering during the single press.
Machine doubling or mechanical doubling looks weird on incuse elements such as you show.... it has quite a different appearance than the traditional look.
