    It's not very often that there are die chips on/in the deepest recesses of the die. Are the spots that you have marked recessed or raised?

    OK, I can see them clearly now and, yep, they are die chips ... as are the ones shown after the OP. Wasn't aware that they appear somewhat commonly. Sorry.
