I went to a bank on Saturday and left with various rolls of dollar coins. To my surprise, I came upon quite a few dollar coins that have been plated in what I believe to be 24K gold:

There's 29 total such coins; all are different presidents.

This isn't something I'd usually care a whole lot about except to say that they appear to sell for pretty good $$$ on eBay, averaging $5 - $8 each depending on the president.

There were some other good finds as well such as 2002 - 2008 Sacagaweas in mint state and an uncirculated set of unplated presidential dollars, including a couple of tough George H.W. Bush coins.

Most of these coins were originally bought at a nice premium; whomever turned them in at face value has taken a decent loss (unless inherited).

I'm not sure if I'll be keeping them all or letting them go; at least I know that there's a stronger-than-expected market for them with collectors, whom I'd rather they go to than just releasing them back into circulation.
