1686 Russia Chekh Minted in Sevsk, Ukraine (Very Rare)

This is something that is rarely seen. 1686 Russia Chekh, minted under Sofya Alekseyevna as Regent for Ivan & Peter.

Obverse features a double-headed eagle and the legend "Ioannes Alexii filius Petrus Alexii filius Dei Gratia Czari & Magni Ducas Totius Mafnae & Parvae & Albae Russiarum Autocratores" which translates to "Ivan and Peter, Sons of Alexii, By the Grace of God, Czars, Grand Dukes and Autocrats of All the Russias, Great, Little and White".

Reverse features a (large variety) Orb with stars on horizontal and vertical bands and the legend “MON NOV FACTA SIEV A 1686”.

These were minted at Sevsk, in the newly regained territory of Little Russia (Ukraine). Minted under primitive conditions and using low grade silver, they were rejected by the people. They were largely used for the payment of salaries to Streltsy and Cossacks who participated in the Crimean campaign of 1687, with the overall intent to replace the currently circulating Polish coins in the region. In 1689, their circulation was banned.

Over the past few years, a handful have come on the market, but before that they VERY rarely popped up for sale.
