Sorry but I don't see that as being a double die cent.

It is a Repunched Mintmark AND a doubled-die? (I don't see it either.)

Oops, I just meant the mint mark being doubled. Nothing else is doubled though.

It's tough to tell really, but it actually looks more like strike doubling, and the mintmark looks similiar to one posted awhile back, and I think they said that it was a plating problem when the the plating moves when the coin is being struck. But, I could be totally wrong on this. Still neat none the less IMHO, lol. :thumb:

And actually too there are RPM's and Double Dies that are on the same coin, I recently purchased the 1927-D Lincoln Cent that is the the RPM#1, and the DDO#1. Link-a-dink-a-doo :)

    Phoenix

Well, all I can say is that the D is clearly doubled on my one :D

    Hey Ryan,

Sometimes it helps to take a photo of the coin at angles of 90 degrees, then look at the pics to see which one shows the doubling the best, then use photo editing software to rotate the coin back to the "upright" position, crop it, then save it and post that pic.

I hope all of that was understandable? :D

    Ribbit :)

I have one as well. But you can see the DD on the bottom of the 9 and 8 as well. Didn't post a pic due to the fact I know it wouldn't be seen. Anyone find a price or is this a new find?

This is a thread from 2008

    No doubled die

This is a plating issue around the D
    Start of Zinc Rot

Your Cent is most likely Die Deterioration Doubling.. Not a true variety

Can someone please tell me how to tell the difference between double die, strike doubling, and Die Deterioration Doubling!!!! I am so confused by this.

I will try. It takes time to learn.
First of all the correct Numismatic terminology is actually Doubled Die.. not double die.
Doubled Die is known as a Variety. It is explained how it occurs here - https://doubleddie.com/58222.html
It is not a striking issue.

Strike doubling such as MD - Mechanical or Machine doubling known as Worthless doubling is not a variety and explained here - https://doubleddie.com/144822.html

DDD - Die Deterioration doubling is also Worthless doubling is not a variety and is explained here - https://doubleddie.com/144843.html

It's a lot of reading. Good luck.
