What is this obverse symbol

Discussion in 'Ancient Coins' started by Robert L Sanders, Jan 20, 2017.

  1. I want to research this coin. The obverse is still too dirty to identify but it looks like some kind of radiated face facing right and there may be "VS" at about 2 o'clock. I think if I can figure out what this thing is on the reverse it'll help. It looks kind of like a tulip or flame or bow and arrow or wheat????

Any help pointing in the right direction is appreciated.

Here's the symbol I'm talking about (sorry it's still a little wet from soaking):

Welcome Robert! It's not easy because the pictures are not very sharp. Could you try to make a sharper pic? Take a bit more distance (but not too much!) And what's the diameter and weight?

Here's the obverse. I don't know why but it looks like the guy has a big nose???:

    Maybe it's a barberous coin?

From the new pics it looks like a barbarous Gallic issue. Tetricus with Spes reverse?

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

That bears a strong resemblance to the alien ship in Star Trek (2009). Thus, I would say, without a doubt, your coin is proof that aliens exist:

I suspect it is a barbarous imitative of Tetricus II similar to my coin below:-

    Barbarous imitation of Antoninianus
Obv:– S (sic) P E TETRICVS CAES, radiate and draped bust right
Rev:– PIETAS AVGVSTOR, Sacrificial implements, spinkler, simpulum, jug and lituus
    Barbarous imitation
