Hello all, I was recently given a coin from my grandfather that he had for some time, and unfortunately we were clueless as to what it actually was. He recently passed away and now more than ever I am curious as to what this coin actually is. Obviously, it has great sentimental value, so I plan on keeping it regardless. As for the coin, it is 21.5mm at its greatest diameter, and unfortunately, I am unable to weigh it due to no scale. I have been attempting research it for myself which actually led me to this forum. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. 20170119_143205.jpg 20170119_143135.jpg

It's an Islamic coin. I don't collect these, but possibly Ottoman Empire. Someone here will know. BTW, welcome to CT

I'm guessing those on-line are not familiar with your coin. Hang in there.

Someone here will know exactly what it is, as Bing says.

This is an amazing resource with people who specialize in all types of coins.

Resembles a silver rupee of Akbar, Mughal Dynasty in India. That would be 16th or 17th c. But these are NOT my speciality. Perhaps some wiser voices will weigh in. If they don't, I would suggest that you search for the silver rupees of the Mughal Dynasty or the Delhi sultanate. I would search those terms at www.Coinindia.com. Look under the Islamic dynasties menu in Galleries.

Closest match I could find. Close, but no cigar. Perhaps it will point you in the right direction though.
