Thursday a very large crowd at door when opened. Lots of collectors and trickled off in afternoon. Friday, slower but lots of collectors and trickled off. Some dealers reporting good show and others so-so. Last year several dealers reported a great show and the other was cancelled due to storm. Perhaps some lost momentum. Advertising for the show is very good so I expect October to be much better. They are working on an educational presentation after the sow in the future. ICG & ANACS here but not the best show for either service.
I was there at opening on Thursday. I guess a fair number of people for the hour plus I was at the show but not a big crowd. Bought one coin right away, a 1829 LM-7.1 half dime in an NGC MS-61 slab. The rest of the show didn't have much of anything I was interested in although I did spend about an hour looking at some other coins. Met and greeted our own @johnmilton. I thought the show was smaller with fewer dealers than in past years. As in past years, a fair number of jewelry vendors. The usual case after case of Morgans and bullion silver. A couple of dealers with lots of pre-1933 gold and some decent material. Didn't check on pricing since I wasn't in the market. Stacks had a big table but really nothing on it. Might have just been in the midst of setting up. I spoke to the Stacks rep for a bit and snagged a nice pen. I only spent about an hour and fifteen minutes at the show. Looking forward to FUN.
Thanks for the reports! @Publius2 when I have seen Stacks at shows, it has been to buy, take consignments for future auctions, and display some items from the upcoming auction. The table itself tends to have little to see. A nice pen though is a solid acquisition! I wonder how much of the activity at shows lately has been people cashing out precious metals while they are up; and how many of those people are putting at least some of that money back into non-bullion numismatics?
