Yesterday I bought 8 Cuban coins from Webstore ranging from .25 to 3.00. Today after I got the invoice I used Paypal as that is what the seller requires. I then get an email from PayPal saying the transaction is pending and co old take up to 72 hours to clear. Has anyone had this happen before and was the outcome good?

Not sure what the hold up is but I wouldn't worry about it if it's Paypal emailing you about the hold. It could be several factors from new Paypal account for seller to seller opting to include a hold to make it more difficult and to deter someone from scamming them. I also wouldn't worry if you're transaction is only about 20 bucks, but I know I can't speak for everyone there.

Should something strange happen please keep us up to date.

I've gotten this a few times as a seller, but it never ended up being an issue. I wouldn't worry about it.

Hopefully the coins are from "Caribbean Island" and not Cubar.

They were listed as Cuba. Am I in trouble?

Some Cuban coins are allowed, but the paypal and ebay bots see the key word "Cuba" and end most of those transactions.

Here is a thread from 2015 about a similar issue. Note that this is worst-case scenario and you should not necessarily have the same outcome.

All I know is with the relations with Cuba now open, cruise ships and flights going to Cuba. We should start seeing more showing up in change. ct1-21-1.jpg ct1-21-2.jpg :blackalien:

Been trying to find someone that's going to be making a trip down there, hopefully they can bring back a roll or two of Cuban coins. Contacted my first wife since she's Cuban. To see if she knew if anyone that she knows was going down there. No luck there.Looking for someone that's also going to the Bahamas. Trying to get a Caribbean contact. Since I don't face or tweet it may be kinda hard. I'll keep looking.USMC60

Highly unlikely that the delay has anything to do with the items being purchased. You don't indicate the transaction method (checking account, credit card) or where the seller is located. If it is an international transaction or if it was an "e-check" type of transaction (if they still have that method), there can be delays for the settlement between banks. The status of the seller may also cause a delay before Paypal will release funds.

Even if they could they might not be the regular Cuban coins. It used to be that tourists coming it had to exchange their money for "Intourist" money (and not a favorable rates) that they would use in the country (and I believe where they could use it was also restricted.) Cuban citizen couldn't have foreign currency. And any excess stuff was not convertible back when they left. but they also tried not to let the Intourist money leave the country as well. Whether they have eased these currency restrictions I do not know.

Many many moons ago, I had the hell scared out of me I was told I may be stationed at Guantánamo Bay. But luckily that did not happen. But from what I heard from the scuttlebutt, they're actually allowing tourists to bring back personal use cigars, I think it's one box per individual. I personally don't know of anyone that's brought back any Cuban cigars. But as you can see by the pic of the coin that was found in circulation in a roll of quarters. Someone brought it back and used it as change in South Florida. I have not heard of the Cuban Army searching passengers going back on ships. So I'm sure some of the coinage, and paper money is going to make it back into the United States. Does anyone know who supplies coinage for Cuba. ? And as far as I know the United States doesn't restrict foreign coinage in the United States, because both international airports in South Florida have foreign exchange at their airports.:blackalien: PS. The other scuttlebutt I heard is they have an exchange on the ships, before he they let you go out into town. I don't know if this is true but if I remember Monday I am going to call the cruise ships and find out what I can about the currency situation in Cuba. Maybe that will make a good thread.

The forbidden subject. If someone we know reverses, what someone else did. I personally think that would be great. All I will say on this subject is, it's going to be a very interesting four years. USMC60

For all members interested. Trip advisor has some very helpful information on Cuban currency, I found it extremely informative. And for any members who may be planning a trip to Cuba, bring back his many CUC or CUP coins that you think you and get away with. Screw the 10% surcharge along with the 3% added to that. For exchanging your currency back in the US dollars. Bring them home put them on eBay and actually make some money. Just a thought for the individuals planning that trip to Cuba. USMC60

Well I called Paypal today and they said I would get a response tomorrow. I not so kindly informed them it will have been closer to 120 and not 72 hours since I made the transaction
