The high points of wear for the Lincoln obverse are: …the ear and the hair above …the eyebrow, the nose and the cheek and jaw …the bowtie and the lapel. I started collecting Lincolns in 1962 and learned these high points quickly. Along with my trusty Red Book I also used the grading criteria to begin to learn how to grade. I quickly ramped up to IHCs, buffalo nickel, mercury dimes, SLQ and Washington quarters and Standing Liberty, Franklin and in 1964, Kennedy halves. I was seeing the high point wear daily in change so high point criteria was applied across all denominations. I was an amateur back then, you will learn too. You’ll gain confidence the more you work with coins, and the next thing you know you will be giving others advice.
Much respect , i started collecting just before the pandemic as a past time while off work . As the love for this hobby i have grows i can only hope to be able to make to make such observations with confidence . I will always respect and appreciate the knowledge that those before me have offered . Thanks again
Coin collecting is quite addictive as you are discovering. But then, what can be wrong with collecting cash?
Spending cash is fun also... (Depending on who you ask). The thing about cash is you can spend it and still have change leftover to pour through.
You can say that again ! It has really cascaded from one denomination to the next . But i enjoy it as much as any other hobby that i've ever had .
