Fun variety. It is called an S-9 clash die coin. The obverse die of the cent was clashed with the die from the 50 cent piece.
I would grade it XF. Nice coin.

1857 was a crazy year for clashes. The cent dies were also clashed with the quarter and the $20 gold piece dies. All are popular with FE cent collectors. You will find all of them listed in the CHERRYPICKERS GUIDE.

A die clash occurs when the two dies hit together without a blank in between. The highest parts of the die leave an impression on the other die. Look above the eagle's front wing and you can see the impression.

Nice die clash, which is common for this year and variety.

This one was clashed with the $20 gold piece die. The second one was clashed with the quarter die.
