I have a $5 gold piece and could use some help with the grading.
I'm thinking either VF-30 or XF. Any opinions?

I think the sharpness is on the VF-EF neighborhood. My concern is that it may have been smoothed. That might not make much of a difference these days because the high gold prices have sucked much, if not all, of the numismatic value out of these coins.

I think VF30+ for wear, but it looks to have been wiped or polished some time in the past.

VF-30, wear and rubbed in my opinion. Either way, lucky you for having it. Thanks for sharing.

    Thanks everyone.
Would this be the some as polished? if not what would you look for tell tell?
I'll look better next time i have it out but I don't recall it having the hairlines a polished silver coin would have.
