I have this 1983P dime that looks like an error to me and I would like to have your opinion. If it an Error, can you please tell me what it is called? The texture on the observe side looks like it cause most of the letters to look tin from a normal dime and some of the letters are faded into the texture. Is this one to hold on to? And thank you for any help you can give me with this. Thank you in advance for all your help
It's a die deterioration issue. It was struck with a worn die. Not really a mint error, just a stage of the die towards its end before they replace it. They use several dies at the US Mint each time they strike millions of coins for each denomination. Neat but nothing really major.
That is correct. It looks like a dual misaligned die strike. That's a common issue on many dimes though.
Me ? Any dime, 1975 and above. If your first thought of it's reverse after just one in hand view using a glass is, huh ? Save it, to compare it with any other dime for the research value Look for a duplicate. Save as in a file of any reverse image's that match. The dates may not follow the same image your researching. But. that's just me.
