    I can, because I do it all the time! Here's the description for a similar piece:

    MEXICO, Segunda República. 1867-1905. AV 20 Pesos (34mm, 33.85 g, 6h). Ciudad de México (Mexico City) mint. Dated 1904 Mo M. REPUBLICA MEXICANA, eagle standing facing on cactus, wings spread, grasping snake in beak and right talon; all atop laurel and oak wreath; below, 1904 / Small radiant liberty cap; below, a crossed sword and balance scale; between the scale pans, a scroll inscribed LEY; around, MoM. VEINTE PESOS 875. BW 262.7; Grove 7109; KM 414.6.

    Are there many varieties, or just doing it for other reasons ?

    There are 14 different mint cities for these coins/ they came in 1/2 1/2/5/10/20 pesos denominations.
