    After experimenting on some foreign bronze and common IHCs, I figured I give it a go on a better coin. I used spot treatments with toothpick tapping on the bad parts of the obverse and then a quick rub on each side. I think it came out as good as I had hoped. Good product. Before and after pics:

    On a well circulated coin I wouldn't worry about the rubbing but on a MS or even an AU. I would roll the qtip. The coin looks much better.

    Ditto. Congrats! Well done. The coin has a very wholesome and pleasing appearance now.

    I like your “wholesome and pleasing” description. I won this cent for $10 in auction. I was happy with that price, and especially now that it looks much better.
