OK, this set is exactly as described and I am well familiar with the Bahamas coins 1966 through 1998, or at least most of them. 1966 was the first year of modern Bahamian coins. Many were struck of all denominations from One Cent through Five Dollars and some were put into "specimen sets" that were not clearly distinguishable from coins released to circulation. They all have a uniform satin-like appearance. I have not seen a proof or even a prooflike coin of ANY denomination to date, or at least until recently. I was scanning internet as is my habit and this has a VERY low yield except that perhaps once or twice a year on average I find something special. And then some relatively poor pictures at one site showed something different: it appeared to be an ENTIRE 1966 BAHAMAS PROOF SET. I Looked and looked and could find no records of such a set (as opposed to the ubiquitous "specimen set" with the satinish appearing coins - very different). The only place I could find such, but not all denominations was in the Royal Collection; not in any catalogue and NO other reports. So, very exciting but will share a crude picture with better to follow, hopefully later tonight, but here is the 1966 Five Dollar in what I believe is proof condition albeit with some mild handling that looks not as severe in hand. I will later show the other denominations and also a typical satin strike specimen which is itself nicer than average. Unfortunately the packaged sets were not treated too well as the coins without protection were stuffed into a box with fitted velvet apertures, and this is set is no exception:
Here are pictures comparing a couple of the coins: ordinary bit superior quality 1966 Five Dollar coin - “New” 1966 Proof: Regular One Dollar: Proof: satin versus proof one cent: Bonus proof Ten Cents: As you can probably see these appear proof and of course have never other than the Toyal Collection seen any others.
