I was wondering if there is anyone here who still uses Cohen's "Monnaies Sous Empire Romain" If so which reprint edition do you have and could I talk you into posting a photo of it. As an added bonus here is an online edition: http://www.virtualcohen.com/henry-cohen-s-work
I have Scorpion, 1976, green paper covers. I enjoy looking up rare coins in it and seeing if and where Cohen found one to list. Is it worth buying now? No. Use the online if you want.
I think it is one of those cases where if you learn a few key words and terms go can navigate the books.
Very true. While I dont use Cohen personally, I have a number of references in German. While I flunked that language in high school, after all these years I know enough to stumble my way through some books.
I have gotten a couple of books in foreign languages, because they are pretty much the only references on series I was interested in. These books have been very difficult to use, and didn't help me much.... but the pictures at least give some value.
I think I collect coin books almost as much as the coins themselves. So to me having a printed set is month the minor expense. To that end I have a vintage reprint set on the way and will post them when they get here.
I use RSC, which uses Cohen's numbering system, so in a way I do. However, it's the least used reference I turn to for imperials.
That's helpful for me. I didn't know RSC used Cohen's numbers. That makes it easier to cross reference with Le trésor numismatique de Réka-Devnia. I've been using the virtual Cohen to do so, but using RSC sounds easier.
