One of the great things about Faustina the Younger is the breadth and depth of the coinage(s) in her honor. First, a significant series by Antoninus Pius, her father, on the occasion of her being named to replace her mother (Faustina the Elder) as Augusta, a few months after she had married A Pius' young protege and Caesar, Marcus Aurelius. Then during Aurelius' time as Augustus, coins with her image were part of the regular emissions - up until her death in 275 - thereafter, she had an extensive posthumous coinage by Aurelius.
There are a few rare types, of course, but she is an excellent subject for a collection theme or even just as a favored type to acquire because such a great variety of types were struck for her throughout her adult life.
This is the Faustina Junior piece I most recently added - I think the portraiture is exceptionally realistic and sensitive - and the reverse is touching in its own way: [IMG]

I'm not 100% clear on how this forum operates - I'm not sure why I got my old post back to "edit" when I went to make some additions to what I had said in my original post - apologies for double-posting.

You only get a limited time to edit your posts...I'm not sure how long. If you rely need to change something just message a moderator or hit the "Report" button and explain the issue.

I was originally trying to add a couple of sentences in a separate post and was surprised when my whole text came back to me in an editable form.
Oh well - superannuated canines being taught new sub-routines and all you know...
At any rate, in the yellow text box on the 2nd post you can see the couple of additions and clarifications I made to the original - for whatever limited difference it might make.
