A metal detectorist discovered a hoard of 1469 Roman denarii in a field in Letca Nouă, Romania. The coins featured eleven Roman emperors and empresses, including Nero, Aurelius, and Galba. They were found in a broken ceramic pot (pictured below). https://amp.miamiherald.com/news/nation-world/world/article304963431.html https://www.fox9.com/news/man-stumb...s-while-out-nature-walk-face-face-history.amp
Unfortunately these coins will probably be cataloged, shown for a few weeks and then tossed in a museum basement to be forgotten. At least these won't end up as dust like so many others, destroyed by bronze disease. So there is a slim chance that in a more enlightened time the hoard will be disbursed to collectors. But the odds are slim - that's why when I hear about these finds - unless in the UK - it is sad news.
Don’t be too cynical. These coins will be accurately catalogued and carefully stored for future generations … who will rediscover them again after being misplaced and forgotten for years.
