Can you put together a portrait collection of 'The 12 Caesars' on a budget? Yes you can.

In another post, the question was asked "What should one budget for a 12 Caesars set?"

As we all do (eventually) I looked at my collection of coins to see how many of 'The 12 Caesars' I already had. Upon acquiring the 'missing' ones', I decided that the next step should be to try and get a 'portrait' collection together - after all, there weren't many that weren't already 'portrait' coins.

For under $700, (some didn't cost much and some were more expensive), I managed to put together the following collection. (I am happy.)

    Edit. six bronze, six silver.

You did much better budget wise than I did. Mine was a couple K more than yours. The only real difference is mine is all silver and all Rome mint. But for the difference, yours is a good collection of the 12. Congrats.

Bravo! Well and thriftily accomplished, topcat. Just out of curiosity, which one was the most expensive (Otho?) and which was the least, and which one do you like the best?

Glad you were able to finish TC. I remember a short conversation we had on that.
Maybe, I'll eventually try to accomplish a set. I need to finish what I've started before deciding on that.

    @zumbly
Most Expensive - Otho @ $350 (fully half of the budget)
Least Expensive - Galba @ $0 (Much appreciated gift from 'Orfew')
Most liked - The Galba - GREAT coin, (central strike/full name/I like wear), and it proves that 'paying forward' works - try it.)

Hey, congrats Topcat ... man, that's a very cool collection (sadly, I'm still missing "3" examples)

Ummm, I'm fairly sure that your awesome Vespasian pig(s) is my favourite (although I agree that Orfew came-up big by giving you the final piece of the puzzle ... solid gesture)

Thanks for sharing your project-results (very cool)

Congratulations on completing your 12 caesars, and doubly so for doing it at that cost:).

I tip my hat to Orfew for his generosity!

Now this looks like a fun, focussed way to collect ancients. I like that and think I may start something similar as my bunch are a range that spoke to me when I saw them.

    Thank you for the incentive.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

Cool collection. Some of those are in pretty rough shape, but it is neat that you were able to do the whole thing affordably.
