Not in hand yet but heres a decent Faustina AR. Should be in pretty soon. Part of empress collection (in progress)
Yeah, the 4rth Century BCE was an incredible time for numismatics. Some very talented celators and great iconic themes. Case in point, here are a few other coins from that era.
how do you guys get your wives to buy you coins?!?! well, it's a very nice looking coin Nathan...welcome to ancients!
This is as close as I can get: Faustina the Younger, Rome, AD 128-175 AE, 31mm, 23.72g; Rome mint Obv: FAVSTINA AVGVSTA; draped bust right wearing circlet of pearls Rev: IVNONI REGINAE S-C; Juno, veiled, standing left, holding patera & scepter; peacock standing left at feet, head reverted
What a wonderful gift you received, @Nathan401! I'd like it better if I could hold it (i.e., not slabbed ). As for the "Golden Age Hoard" label, there has been much discussion about such NGC labels, with the popular thought being that the many such hoard names were merely marketing ploys. However, Barry Murphy (long time coin dealer, now works for NGC Ancients) dropped in for one such discussion and he maintains that such labels are legitimate. Here are those posts: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/if...need-to-stop-lying.285415/page-4#post-2549930 https://www.cointalk.com/threads/if...need-to-stop-lying.285415/page-4#post-2549862 https://www.cointalk.com/threads/if...need-to-stop-lying.285415/page-4#post-2549833 I think such labels are both: legitimate AND marketing ploys. Also, to clarify: NGC does not guarantee authenticity, although obviously they do not want to slab fakes so perhaps having a NGC-slabbed coin gives bit of extra confidence to a newbie.
@Nathan401 you're a lucky man to have a wife who scores cool coins for you! Ancients are great and perhaps you'll add more to your collection. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you decide to get more. Just don't post live auctions publicly.
This. There have been instances where someone posted a live auction, and the amount of bidders bidding on the coin increased dramatically.
