I totally agree. Tell me... how did the Morgan dollar come about? Oh, wait, that happened ~140 years ago, so that's history not, politics, right? Sure, whatever. Mods, I would like to know how my harmless and silly post that said "This is why we can't have nice things," featuring a well-known meme involving a certain current (but soon to be ex) political figure got removed, but the above quoted post remains? Please explain in public, so we can all get a sense of what the "real rules" are.
I get the feeling the "real rules" (and my learning this is STILL a work in progress) get involved where flame wars are risked. Cheap shots are ALWAYS over the line. Why? Because they incite. How close did I get, Jim?
The message you quoted does not mention any specific president. It reads generic, rather than specific which yours indicated by a meme. Kurt ( to his credit) seems to be expert in tip toeing through the rules. There was no reason other than a political shot why you posted it.
I for one like that the mods keep the political content to a relative minimum (or at least keep it civil). While I concede that the design of coins is directly political and always has been, too often those type of discussions devolve into a mouthpiece for the fringe on both sides to hurl childish and acerbic insults at each other while the majority of us just want to go back to discussing our beloved coins (or other topic). It also seems like whichever side has the most bullies will over time tend to dominate the discussions. I know some really good sites that have been ruined by that type of stuff going unchecked. I also don't like the design much (the giant stars look cartoonish) but would consider picking one up if the mintage was low enough. JMHO
No, I posted it because it's funny and relevant in response to Kurt's message. I voted for said unnamed political figure. Please refrain from ascribing motives to me, since you clearly do not understand my motives. BTW, this is your reference to a specific political figure: Anybody who hasn't spent the past 5 years living under a rock knows who that is, except, apparently, you.
It wouldn't surprise me any if new designs and subjects near and dear to the new administration's pet ideas and philosophies found their way onto coins in the next four. Military themes run well in all administrations. Then again, the next administration may feel that they don't care. We just need to see.
Would be a vast improvement over the disease and charity themed commemoratives we've been getting lately.
that is what somebody in my coin group on Facebook said, but Who knows. Not the most reliable source , thought some of you might know for sure.
Something tells me you know why, and that when it comes to "political" content allowed, it often matters only which direction someone "thinks" one leans. Would be nice, but I don't see it happening, unfortunately. I once received a written warning for and personally experienced how the "message you quoted does not mention any specific president. It reads generic, rather than specific" is completely meaningless. Tread carefully...
Yes and that design has already been done before on the 1989 bicentennial! Whatever happened to the "fresh, contemporary" version of Lady Liberty? The design choices of this year's gold liberty is truly awful. The Mint should be embarrassed on how this coin looks like play money!
