Unusual one Dollar notes

Discussion in 'Paper Money' started by Robert Theroux, May 17, 2025 at 3:59 PM.

  1. I was going through a couple of straps of dollar notes and found three consecutive star notes that all had a weird cut on the top left corner.

I also found three consecutive dollar notes but the middle serial numbered note has a ghost like dollar printed on top of the note which is very weird to me but what seems even weirder is that it does not continue on to the next serial number note.

I am new to collecting dollar notes so I could really use some help from someone that is a seasoned collector to let me know if these are anything special or not.

I can only take pictures with my phone so I hope they are ok, i cropped some on my computer to try and attach the best pictures I can.

Thank You in advance for any help or advise on these dollar notes

Don't know much about collecting these. I'm guessing the three stars were all in the same stack that had a miss cut by the machine, but I don't know if that adds or detracts from value. (By the way, they are not quite consecutive--missing ...36 and ...37.)

The "ghost" overprint, however, is really cool, with or without the consecutive notes. I don't know enough to hazard a guess as to how it happened. If they were in the same pack as the star notes, having three star notes would indicate they were messing up on other sheets as well, but that one slipped through. It's also possible that another pack would have a note with the other half of that "ghost." That would be amazing to find!

The star notes appear to be a small miscut but it’s so small it wouldn’t make me want to buy it. The overprint is is nice error. Be sure to keep it along with the one before and after and be sure to put them in a sleeve designed for paper money.

Neat Overprint, wonder how that happens without the previous notes getting tagged.

  6. Update on the overprint, someone told me to look at the back of the notes, the bills with the serial numbers ending in 71 and 73 have a 28 on the back the bill the note with the over print ending in 72 has a 6 on the back, I am not sure what that means but if anyone can tell me why the numbers on the back are different it would be greatly appreciated.

Also looking closer the one with the overprint has a FW H 35 on the bottom right of the note and the other two have FW H 36 on the bottom right. It doesn't make sense to me why consecutive serial numbers have different numbers elsewhere on the notes.
Again all information will received is greatly appreciated.

@Robert Theroux We need to see photos of the back side. Please show the entire back of each note and the same for the front, including the star notes.

  9. Here are more photos of the weird overprint as requested. The system won't let me load 12 photos so I will load the other in a second response.
