..detected at an old fairgrounds spot that dates to the 1860s. Had a good day.
Found 5 silver dimes. 3 mercs, 1 rosie and a seated!! The seated was a nice surprise.

This was a neat find. Found all these pennies stuck together with some leather still attached to em. The newest date is a 1920. The oldest was one lone Indian head a 1889.

But this find was the one that made my day. Seated are not that common to find and this was the first one that I have gotten out of this particular site. A fun day out detectin. Jim

That was a great day detecting.
I haven't hit a seated (anything) in years.

Yesterday's detecting: the best was a silver St Christopher's medal.

Most old coins are at least 5 inches down. I tend not to dig anything less than that. I may miss some that way but I just love the old coins. Jim

A Minelab 2 cost about $850. Do you think you will ever get that back finding old coins under the ground?

I went out this morning, Sunday, very hot & humid, but I lastd from about 8AM to around 10:30 before I started to wilt.

Picked up about 40 pounds of trash, a bunch of coins, and.... are ya ready?
    A man's 14 KT (Italy) bracelet

Just got back: We just had about 3 to 5 inches of rain in the last couple of hours, and the basement had some water that I had to clean up.

Anyway: the bracelet in marked 14 Kt/Italy.
It weighs in at 26.7 pennyweight (DWT) which equals 1.335 ounces of gold, whish is about .77875 ounces pure or, at $661 an ounce is $514 in gold.

my best gold in a while.

It's always possible. It just depends on how much you go out.

You could go out once and call it quits and never get it back, or you can go out dozens of times because you enjoy the hobby and easily make that money back and then some.

I have a detector that was given to me, so it was free. I dig everything and usually come back with at least $2.00 or so in modern coins. Do that enogh times and it adds up

I have been doing this since 1989 and believe me, I have paid for my detectors many times over.

Fabulous finds you've got there Jim. I think I'll fire up the old detector and step out side my house. I live in Northern California along the Pony Express route. I'll try my acre 1st.

Easy. Now this is not common but last year before I sold my other detector. I found 3 coins at an old spot and sold the 3 of em on e-bay for $250.

In a summers time of detecting once or twice per week you can easily pay for the detector in finds. Or one find like treasure did in his post in this thread. I found a 1877 Indian head and sold that on the bay for $400 a few years back.

It is a hobby anyway. Can ya make your money back on golf clubs? If you turn pro I guess ya could. Lol. Jim
