Heavy Hadrian denarius

    This one just came in from a European dealer off of MA after a few weeks in shipping and customs. It feels heavy in hand. Weighed in at 3.98 g. The relief is amazing and the reverse details are mostly still there. Supposedly still 90% silver. Nice toning on front.

    Seller description: Obv: IMP CAESAR TRAIAN HADRIANUS AUG Laureate bust to right slight drapery far right shoulder

    Rev: Roma seated to left on pile of arms, holding Victory and sceptre.

    Seems similar to a seated liberty design.

    Very handsome coin. I haven't seen a Hadrian that heavy before.

    It’s between 16.84 and 17.25 mm in diameter. The planchet seems thick. 1.88 to 2.02 mm thick.
