I purchased this Silver Tetradrachm of Antiochus VII today. The coin measures 28mm x 36mm, it has a weight of 16.0g. It is ex. Jonathan Kern, who sold it in the early to middle 1980s.

I was struck by the impressive size of the elliptical planchet and just had to have it!

For sake of comparison, here is another Tet of Antiochus VII from my collection:

    That is super cool!

I really like the large and unusual planchet as well.

Looks totally different from one another. I would never guess they are both Antiochus VII.

Great coin and nice comparisons, you can see how different they really are for being the same.

Very interesting! That's quite a whopper of a coin. I think most prefer round, but I'm drawn to oddly-shaped planchets as well. Here's an AtG tet that I bought partially because of its pleasing elliptical shape. I thought it had a lot of character despite its flaws and condition, and of course, these tend to be cheaper than less symmetrically-challenged examples :).

Great new addition and nothing like big silver to start off 2017!

    Here's mine, for comparison:

Obv.: Diademed head of Antiochus VII right
Rev.: BAΣIΛEΩΣ ANTIOXOY EVEPΓETOY; Athena Nikephoros standing left; to outer left, monogram above A; all within wreath.

The noses on mine and your new one are similar.

Neat oblong flan on the new addition. I like the portrait of the comparison coin.
