GTG: Raw 1902 Morgan Dollar

    Picked this up at a flea market today. Thankfully I see no signs of cleaning, and it appears to be quite nice of a grade, which is why I bought it.

    What do you think it would grade? I can upload better photos if you need them.

    I have to go with Sal on this one AU-50 possibly a wee bit higher.

    slight rub on hair, breast and leaves.. Otherwise I would call it MS That said I'll go AU58

    Edited to add and clarify;
    AU Details - Scratched: extending from jaw to neck
    Cleaned: The surfaces are blotchy and different colors

    I'd guess AU53 without seeing it in hand to evaluate luster.

    That's a mighty small and insignificant mark to get a scratched detail. As for it being cleaned, who knows? I'd say MS58.

    If you are unsure of cleaning how do you grade it MS58?

    I'm not sure of anything, we were asked to guess. Minor wear isn't the same thing.

    I'd guess AU-55 to AU-58. Could possibly be a low MS coin but without seeing the luster and pictures on different angles to show the fields and potential contact marks, it's hard to say.

    I still can't grasp weak strikes from minor wear, and probably never will. I have been fooled plenty of times.
