Picked this up today and have only figured out what's in English - the date and 100g of .999 silver. Any translation help would be appreciated.
For someone who speaks fluent Mandarin, I sure am a disgrace to my famiry for not being able to read it. The easiest way to decipher this would be to: A) find a real Chinese person B) download the app "Pleco" (on both ios and android). It lets you draw the characters and then tells you what it is.
I don't speak it at all but I'd be willing to bet, somewhere in there, it says "Year Of The Monkey". But that's just a toss out.
Correct. On the box "title", it says "Hou2 Nian2 Zhuan1(?) Xiang2", which means "Monkey Year Special(?) Auspiciousness" The third character is a bit hard to read since it's written in grass script, but I think "special" sounds fair enough.
I tried year of the monkey, 100g silver, wood box, happy new year, the serial number 2015I10-54-002988 and in various combinations. I'm thinking it's a private mint issue but haven't found the exact item. Yet.
give me like a week and I can slowly translate it bit by bit whenever I have time. It's a LOT of characters to go through...
Here's one on eBay http://www.ebay.com.sg/itm/Exquisit...059500?hash=item5b22094fac:g:6WIAAOSw9uFW8lBm
The description states that it is silver plated. Pretty strange that they would make such a fancy box for a played item.
That's really nice of you but I don't want you to put that much effort into it. I'll figure it out eventually or someone will know what it is.
One good original source to search would be the Alibaba website, otherwise known as the Home of Ten Thousand counterfeits.
I'm thinking it is overselling with certificates and packaging to sell crap. It's in a capsule sealed in plastic like Pandas. I had never seen one and neither had the dealer. I made the call to buy it based on the rest of the collection it came in with. I guess the original collector got taken but I have somebody to return it to. Thanks guys.
