1936 Stamped Penny

Hey guys,

No idea about coins or anything, but received a weird looking penny today and wondering if it's rare or valuable. Thanks for the help!

Your coin has a counterstamp from the Freemasons.

It doesn't have any particular rarity, and with the counterstamp, it is more just something that is interesting rather than valuable.

No, that's just somebody playing games with it. It's still worth a cent, though, unless somebody likes to collect something like that.

 

These can be collectible for those who collect in the fraternities as a thematic type collection.

 

It's worth one cent if you spend it and maybe a buck as a token. There are lots of them out there.

 

I have a bunch of them that were given to me by a casual acquaintance. He is a retired employee of the Philly Mint, and he made the punch and die himself. In addition to the Mason's symbol, he also produced one for the Shriners.

I'm saying, to each his own! However, this type of counterstamp has much more appeal than those made from a simple letter punch.
