Sent raw 1833 dime and it came back details XF. What to do?

Normally I wouldn't keep a details coin in my collection, but I have to admit that despite it being cleaned, the actual cleaning is very light at best. I didn't even notice when I sent it. I'm kind of half tempted to keep it anyway. Would you keep it?

That's the NGC photo. I have to look at a closer when I get it, but going off my memory I can see where they could have called it cleaned. But it must be a very old light cleaning because it did have nice patina and it didn't look polished or scratched up to death like your typical cleaned coin.

I'm kind of leaning towards keeping it despite usually not having any details coin except for shipwreck coinage.

I say keep it or you could just send it to me. I like detail coins. :)

Was originally ANACS. I cracked it out and submitted it raw. That's the actual photo before I cracked it out. It still looks nice and has a lot of eye appeal. I don't think I want to get rid of it.

Its the only one that's coming back with details grade. I'll give ANACS some credit in that all the other former ANACS coins I cracked out and sent to NGC are all coming back problem free with the same or higher grades. I even had one ANACS coin that was AU-58 that's coming back NGC MS-61, an 1852 silver Trime.

So yeah, shame about this one, but it's still an old coin and I think I can look past the label and still enjoy it. Just wanted to get some opinions but I'm mostly sure it's probably going to stay in my collection regardless.

I was going to say the same thing.
If you really don't like it, pass it on to someone who does.
It's almost 200 years old, can you really fault the coin that at some point brushed up next to something that left a few lines :p seriously unless you overpaid for MS and can get your money back, it's a keeper all day for me.

Keep it. I would have never sent it in to be entombed.

Given some of the “disappointing material” that I have seen in NGC holders, I’d say that they are being rather petty.

The choice is really yours. I’ve been working on a date set of cents from 1793 to date. Some of the coins are raw, and I know that a few of them would not grade if I sent them to a TPG. I didn’t feel like paying the high prices for coins like an 1796 Draped Bust, and I have an 1801 three errors cent with Fine sharpness that would not grade.

I had an 1806 cent when I was a dealer that probably would not have graded. I wish I still had it because it’s one of the dates I need. Maybe you might feel the same about the dime.

I can live with some details coins. They are easy to sell if in PCGS or NGS holders and still bring good prices at auction. Many get cracked out and put into albums.

Pictures can be deceptive but I cannot see any signs of cleaning. I also don't see any deep scratches or gouges. As of late I have been very disappointed to find many straight grade coins with those injuries. All in all, i think this is a quality coin and if this type of coin doesn't belong in a collection than what does? James

Both of the images posted show signs of cleaning. Still a nice coin.
